About

Come to Mountain Fest 2020

Mountain Fest has become one of the premiere East Coast mountain bike events.  Run by the not-for-profit Velo MSM trail crew, with assistance from Mont Ste Marie management, this fundraiser has enabled the trail organization to continue the expansion and maintenance of the trail system.

Mountain Fest tickets are your gift that keeps on giving!

Many of the development grants that Velo MSM applies for are ‘matching’ grants. Essentially, this means that in order to receive the grant money, we need to demonstrate that we have the ability to match the grant’s contribution dollar for dollar. One of the key reasons why the festival exists (besides the fact that mountain biking is fun and the MTB community is awesome) is as a means to generate the revenue that can be used for matching grants to build more trails. Three days of epic biking, fun and challenging races, an industry expo including bike demos, music, and lots of activities for the whole family.

About Velo MSM

Velo MSM is a not-for-profit trail crew dedicated to the creation of a unique and special trail destination at Mont Ste-Marie. The Velo MSM trail network is composed of two unique sections, the mountain area and the lake loop. The lake loop consists of mostly beginner and intermediate trails. The mountain area, is intermediate to advanced. The mountain area, contains everything from fast flowy trails to rough natural trails. In total is there is 30+ KM of trails, with enough variety to keep riders happy for an entire weekend.

Ride Ottawa Skills Clinics

Join Ride Ottawa Saturday July 27th, 2019 for a special group clinic covering fundamental MTB Skills at Mountain Fest 2019 !

We are super stoked to offer this session to Mountain Fest Weekend Pass holders!

The session starts at the lodge and covers basic bike set-up, control skills and body position fundamentals.  It will then break into groups to practice specific skills on the trails. An easier group will head out to Hollywood Boulevard, and two intermediate groups will head to Trans-Am to practice roll-downs and to Cookie’s to work on cornering.

Space is limited.  There are 15 spots for the session in three groups.  These sessions are intended for adults only.

Kids Events
The children’s race will surely delight with two exciting race events for the young racers in your family. For the young kids, a mini-race will see them complete a loop on a small closed course surrounded by cheering spectators, while the older kids will complete 2 loops for Mountain Fest glory and prizes! Kids will have a blast testing their mountain biking skills on the obstacle course, navigating skinnies, roller ramps and teeter totters. Older children can sign up for our -no drop- group rides led by experienced riders who will lead participants through the easier trails while offering guidance, encouragement and support.

Mountain Spirit Events

Each year of Mountain Fest we strive to bring entertainment and events for the whole family which includes riders and non-riders alike. We offer a Mountain Spirit (non-bike) pass for folks who don’t mountain bike but would like to participate in the festival by enjoying the music, hiking or running the trails, riding the chairlift and enjoying the beach area. The Mountain Spirit pass is less expensive and give you access to all things except biking events. This year the Spirit events include: a “Learn to Trail Run” clinic and a group trail run led by Salomon with prize giveaways, two yoga classes on the beach led by Shala Yoga and Cathia Yoga, a “Core & More” group strength training session led by Premium Performance Fitness Centre, an ultimate frisbee game and Stand-Up Paddle Boarding provided by Paddlefit. In the evenings, a DJ Dance party on Friday night and live rock bands on Saturday night are sure to round out an amazing festival experience for everyone. All of this is included in your Mountain Spirit pass, which supports Velo MSM in maintaining and building our great trail system.

Music

This year at MountainFest, Velo MSM is pleased to host 2 evenings of exciting entertainment sure to please music lovers of all kinds! Friday June 26, the weekend will kick off with a DJ Dance Party. Back to back DJ’s will spin tunes from 6pm to midnight and get everyone in the spirit for a weekend party. DJ Kitty Funk will again rock the main stage Saturday afternoon to keep the energy high. Finally, after the fajitas and marguaritas in the main lodge (tickets must be purchased in advance on the registration page), a live acoustic set will be followed by a rocking hot performance by Hot Jupiter. See you at the party!

DJ
With nearly a decade under her belt as a professional entertainer, Kitty Funk has the confidence to mix between genres easily and keep the crowd interested, no matter who the audience. Kitty loves to test the limits of the crowd introducing new music and fresh sounds. Her sets are never cookie cutter, boring or repetitive. In 2017, Kitty signed on to the Snow Pride event to spin for the annual Snow Ball at host mountain Mont Ste Marie. With a broadening expoure to both the Ontario and Quebec scenes, expect to see lots of new bookings for Kitty across Canada in the coming years!

A staple of Ottawa’s underground club scene, this proven crowd favourite is guaranteed to have everyone dancing to her beats. Music like you’ve never heard before, a sound like no other. Plush will bring you on a journey of musical diversity. There are no limits to the creative experience and skill that makes this DJ so unique. Her stylistic versatility has enabled her to be heard on countless dance floors at clubs and festivals in major cities across Canada, the US and South America. Her influences are many, providing her with an arsenal of standout tunes that will make your booty shake from sundown to sunrise. You know a party is hot when Plush gets behind the decks and the crowd tears up the dance floor.

FAQ
I’m a vendor, can I attend?
Of course! The more the merrier, please contact us at info@velomsm.com for details about our vendor package.
Do Velo MSM members get a discount?
Yes Velo members get a coupon code for 20% off the registration cost of the festival.
What are the registration hours?
See schedule.
What if I come to ride but don’t want to pay?
Don’t do it. Don’t be that guy. Seriously, we are a not-for-profit volunteer organization, and the trails are free every other weekend, although we do appreciate your donations. There is no excuse, this is the one time we ask you to pay.
There is always a really angry looking Aussie guy, what's his deal?
Oh don’t mind him, he’s a big teddy bear. Give him a big hug, and just watch him light up!
Can I suggest a beer fondo event?
Yes. We are a group of volunteers, and we try as best we can to keep things fresh and fun, but as we operate as a collective, we welcome and in fact encourage ideas and contributions from all attendees.
Can I bring my dog?
We love dogs, but with a large number of people, we suggest leaving our fury friends at home.
Can I come just to listen to the music?
Yes you can, but we ask that you make a donation to Velo MSM. Remember that this is the main fundraiser for our not-for-profit organization.
Where is the camping?
The most popular spot is along the south edge of the main parking lot.
Can I buy tickets on site?
Absolutely! Walk up registrations are certainly welcome, but there are some benefits to registering online… Also the enduro race requires pre-registration.
What are the chairlift hours?
The lifts run from 10AM – 4PM on Saturday and Sunday. The lifts may be unavailable should there be lightning in the area.
How much does it cost to demo bikes?
Nada. Although if you are making heavy use of retailers, please consider making a donation.
What brands are coming to the industry expo?
We update the list of logos on this page often. We try to have it represent who will be there, but unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control, sometimes some of the listed brands are not available.
Can I have my picture taken with Paul Cook?
We are shocked how often this request comes up, but yes you can! Just ask him, he is always amenable to fan requests.
Can I get a refund?
Mountain Fest is quite a large production and as a result we have a number of fixed costs that we are responsible for regardless of the number of participants that attend the event. As a result we do not offer refunds. To do so could jeopardize our ability to offer the event and the mountain biking trails as we operate on a net zero budget and do not have the means to fund losses.
Can I transfer my pass?
Yes, passes are transferable prior to the event. Please just let us know by Thursday July 18th at info@velomsm.com
